Tinubu Swears -in Chairman, Commissioner of Nigeria Law Reform Commission

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in Prof. Dakas C.J. Dakas (SAN) as Chairman and Dr. Uchenna Eugene as Commissioner of the Nigeria Law Reform Commission.
The brief inauguration ceremony, held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, took place before the Executive Council of the Federation meeting.
The Nigeria Law Reform Commission is the statutory body responsible for reviewing, updating, and reforming the nation’s laws to ensure they meet current social, economic, and political realities. It also advises the Federal Government on necessary legislative changes to promote justice, fairness, and good governance.
During the meeting, the Council observed a one-minute silence in honour of former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, who died on Saturday, 9th of August 2025, at the age of 78.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the swearing-in, the new Chairman, Prof. Dakas C.J. Dakas, assured Nigerians that the Commission will embark on innovative and strategic law reforms aimed at national transformation, in a way that rekindles hope in both the legal system and the Nigerian state.
He explained that the Commission would work closely with the National Assembly, especially within the ongoing constitutional review exercise, and would deliberately identify and propose reforms for obsolete laws, many of which date back to the colonial era and are no longer fit for purpose.
Prof. Dakas expressed confidence that, in partnership with the National Assembly and the Executive, the Commission would advance the nation’s law reform agenda in a manner that inspires public trust and confidence.
