Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to attend the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from July 27 to July 29.

His spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday. “The summit would hold from July 27 to July 29,” Nkwocha said.

Shettima has already departed Abuja for the East African country, where he will represent Nigeria at the high-level meeting.

The summit—convened in partnership with the governments of Ethiopia, Italy, and the United Nations—aims to assess progress made since its 2021 debut and outline new strategies for building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems worldwide.

Shettima is expected to join global leaders and senior officials in key discussions, including those focused on transforming value chains like the coffee industry and advancing Nigeria’s goals in food security and agricultural innovation.

According to Nkwocha, “the vice president would also participate in several ministerial roundtables and side events, including one on public finance, trade, and responsible investment for accelerating agricultural transitions.”

The gathering is expected to inspire stronger commitments among nations to address hunger, improve nutrition, and strengthen food systems against climate shocks.
