Nigerians Set to Protest as Frustration Boils Over

Nigerians are gearing up for a nationwide protest as frustration with the government’s handling of the economy and fuel subsidy removal reaches a boiling point.
According to Nwoba Chika Nwoba, a social media influencer and member of Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi state, “the protest might pose a hard start tomorrow and next, but from the fifth day, it’ll spread like bushfire.”
“The turnout in retaliation will shock them. It’ll be as if something struck a beehive letting out a swarm of bees. That’s what it’ll look like. Police should only be on the look out for those who’ll try to weaponize the exercise and fuel crisis. They’re the ones they should pick up. But if police or army try to fleece muscles, well, I’m sure they’re too small in number to control the reactions that may follow” he added.
Nwoba criticized the government for trying to dissuade people from protesting, saying “they don’t have access to the major people protesting.”
The user also warned that attempts by security forces to intimidate or arrest peaceful protesters would only fuel further outrage.
“At the initial stage of it, they’ll think that they have successfully dissuaded people from protesting not knowing that it’s just taking a natural process. What’ll again fuel up the protest is if police or army are found intimidating or arresting or bullying people who came out to protest peacefully.
“the turnout in retaliation will shock them.”
Nwoba highlighted perceived injustices, such as the case of the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly’s son, who allegedly killed a man and was not held accountable.
“Some six days ago, son of the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Moses Ije hit a working class Ikwo man attending work in Abakaliki. The man died instantly.
According to Nwoba, “Morning of the next day, some sycophants went to sympathize the Speaker and the same boy was the one serving them drinks. A boy who should be cooling off in police cell at least for one week until the bereaved family is placated. Should we continue this way? “
“The same Speaker escaped impeachment a week ago as members of the House had begun collecting signatures to effect his removal over allegation of corruption. It took the intervention of the Governor to halt the impeachment proceedings. Imagine it was a son of an ordinary person that killed the man. By now police would be manhandling such a person in cell” Nwoba added.
“The people in government have dealt with this country,” Nwoba said. “If protest is what can bring about a little solution, we don’t have an option than to hit the ground running immediately.”
