Police Spokesman Adejobi Promoted, Redeployed to Delta

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the promotion of its spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). He has also been redeployed as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State Command.
Police authorities explained that Adejobi’s redeployment is a routine posting, following his decoration with the new rank after the approval of the Police Service Commission. They dismissed claims suggesting he was “controversially removed” from his role as Force PRO.
A senior officer at Force Headquarters said Adejobi’s new assignment is both a recognition of his service and an elevation to a more strategic role.
“The deployment of officers is a normal administrative procedure in the Nigeria Police Force. DCP Adejobi’s record of professionalism, commitment, and service excellence made him a natural fit for this crucial operational responsibility,” the source stated.
As DCP Operations in Delta State, Adejobi will be tasked with coordinating security operations, tackling violent crimes, and strengthening community relations in one of the country’s most challenging security zones.
However, Adejobi’s years as Force Public Relations Officer sparked sharp debate. While he gained visibility as the face of the police, critics accused him of using his position to shield the Force from accountability, repress dissent, and harass perceived opponents on social media.
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju once petitioned the U.S. Embassy, calling for Adejobi’s visa to be revoked over alleged abuses of office. Activist Omoyele Sowore was even more direct, describing him as “one of the worst policemen ever recruited into the Nigeria Police Force.”
“I have said this before, and I will keep saying it Muyiwa Adejobi @Princemoye1 is one of the worst policemen ever recruited into the Nigeria Police Force @PoliceNG.
His conduct is not just a personal failure it is a testament to the rot within the system that rewards mediocrity, dishonesty, and shamelessness while punishing integrity. But we’ve come to a point where this impunity must be stopped permanently. #RevolutionNow #EgbetokunMustGO!” Sowore wrote on X.
Other critics alleged that Adejobi became combative with citizens online, prioritising image management for the Force over genuine accountability. Several cases involving rights activists and women who accused him of abuse of office also trailed his tenure, drawing scrutiny from within and outside the police institution.
For his supporters, Adejobi’s promotion is a reward for service and professionalism. But for his critics, the move reflects a deeper problem within the Nigeria Police Force — one where controversy and public distrust rarely stop career advancement.
