PDP Official Incarcerated in Ebonyi State Amidst Political Turmoil

Amidst allegations of corruption and political intrigue, Nwoba Chika Nwoba, the Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, has been arrested and is currently being held in custody.
The statement, issued by Dr P. Okey, a concerned Ebonyian residing in the United Kingdom, emphasized on Monday that Mr Nwoba holds significant standing within the PDP in Ebonyi State, having steadfastly championed the causes of the people of Ebonyi since 2017.
“Chika is the serving Publicity Secretary of PDP in Ebonyi State. He has remained the voice of all Ebonyi people since 2017 till date,” he said.
He said he has been a champion of various causes and has been seen as a voice for the people.
He lamented that Mr Nwoba’s incarceration comes at a critical time for the PDP in Ebonyi State, as the party prepares for new leadership elections.
He explained that Mr Nwoba is a contestant for the position of Chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi State.
He said Mr Nwoba’s opponents within the party view his detention as an advantage, seeing it as a setback for his campaign.
He stressed that Mr Nwoba’s troubles stem from his advocacy for the dislodgment of Ebonyi children hawking on the streets. The initiative garnered support from the state Governor, but tensions arose when Mr Nwoba criticized the allocation of funds for the initiative, alleging misappropriation by a committee appointed to oversee disbursements.
He stated that upon discovering discrepancies in the committee’s handling of funds, Mr Nwoba took the bold step of petitioning the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This led to backlash from the committee members, who retaliated by orchestrating his arrest and subsequent imprisonment on charges orchestrated through their connections with the state judiciary.
He said Mr Nwoba’s bail application is set to be heard by the Federal High Court in Abakaliki this week, raising hopes for his release pending further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Government has initiated an investigative committee to scrutinize the disbursement process, revealing alleged irregularities and implicating committee members, including prominent individuals such as the son of a former Senator, Oguzo Offia Nwali.
He said despite Mr Nwoba being incarcerated, he remains undeterred and is drawing on past experiences and legal victories to navigate the current challenges. He said his supporters anticipate his return with heightened anticipation, expecting him to emerge stronger and armed with further revelations.
He cautioned that as the investigation progresses, speculation intensifies about potential disciplinary measures or legal consequences for implicated committee members, signalling a tumultuous period on the horizon for Ebonyi State politics.
He added that observers eagerly await Mr Nwoba’s return to the political arena, anticipating a continuation of the intrigue and revelations that have characterized this unfolding saga.
