Over 50 youths undergo training on telecommunication operations in Abuja

More than fifty youths are currently undergoing intensive training in telecommunication operations, installation, maintenance, and equipment deployment; an initiative designed to harness the vast opportunities in the telecommunications sector

The pilot training programme, sponsored by the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) in collaboration with a private sector; Grassroots Bridge Builders, aims to empower the youth with practical skills to become self-reliant while contributing meaningfully to economic growth.

Speaking at the launch of the pilot phase of the Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Project in Abuja, the Director General of NASRDA, Dr. Mathew Adepoju, highlighted the urgent need for skilled manpower in telecom maintenance and deployment He noted that the programme would help bridge the existing capacity gap in the sector.

“This program for grassroots youth is on the microwave communication and telecommunication installation, maintenance, and deployment. And we strongly believe that this is the biggest telecommunication market in Africa. And there is quite a lot of things our youth, when they are well trained for the skill, the market is already there and the law of the land is already on their side. With the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President and the tenacity and commitment of the Honorable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, of course, this platform is to bring the dreams of Nigerian youth into reality.”

Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Grassroots Bridge Builders, Mr. Ibrahim Igoche, stated that the training is designed to address persistent downtimes in telecommunication systems across the country. He added that the organisation will collaborate with telecom companies after the training to ensure the participants gain hands-on industry experience and further enhance the knowledge acquired.

​“We aim to give back to Nigeria by steering our youth away from vices and towards constructive thinking, contributing our share to nation-building,” said Mr. Ibrahim Igoche, CEO of Grassroots Bridge Builders. “This program serves as an alternative certification for Nigerian youths. Following this pilot phase, we plan to collaborate with industry stakeholders to enhance the employability of our participants.”​

Participants were selected based on their foundational knowledge in telecommunications. The training programme is scheduled to last for two weeks.
