NYSC Resumes Payment Of Arrears Following Two Month Delay As Corps Members Receive N77,000 Allowance

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has resumed payment of arrears to corps members, marking the first disbursement since June 3 after a two-month pause.
The payment, which began on Wednesday, is tied to the recently approved N77,000 monthly allowance by the Federal Government.
Recall that on April 5, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu assured that both serving and recently discharged corps members would benefit from the increment once funds were released.
“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. We have their bank details,” he had stated during the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja.
Confirming the development to PUNCH, a former corps member, who requested anonymity, expressed relief after receiving the payment alert. “After waiting for two months, I didn’t expect to see another payment. But honestly, it’s not just about the money; it’s about feeling like our efforts actually count,” the ex-corps member said.
The arrears, which cover the period from July 2024 to March 2025, follow months of frustration over delays in implementing the allowance increase, part of the Federal Government’s pledge to cushion economic hardship for Nigerian youth.
