FEC approves over N3tr for explosives screening machines in airports
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the award of over N3 trillion contract for the supply and installation of customised explosive and narcotic detection screening systems for five international airports across the country.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, stated this on Monday while briefing State House correspondents on the memoranda he presented at the meeting.
He said the screening systems would be installed at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja; Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport; and two others in Enugu and Port Harcourt.
The Minister said the equipment would disallow travellers from having their bags opened for manual check, which disorganises the content of their luggage.
He also said the FEC had approved the signing of a bilateral air service agreement with the Republic of Guyana.
He explained that the agreement would open direct routes to South American countries, where trade activities are envisaged to flourish.
Also briefing newsmen, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, said FEC had approved Nigeria’s draft ‘Human Rights Reports’ for transmission to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR).
He stated that the approval was for the 4th cycle of the United Nations Universal Periodic Review, in fulfillment of the practice of reporting human rights records.
The Attorney General explained that the report had dismissed the insinuation that Nigeria employed children in the Armed Forces and discriminated against women, which emanated from information that some areas denied the womenfolk the right to inherit their fathers’ property.
