Eight killed in Kwara road accident
The Kwara Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the deaths of eight travellers at Oke Onigbin, along Omu -Aran-Ilorin road, in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
Busari Basambo, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said in a statement that a “fatal road traffic crash” occurred at Oke Onigbin, along Omu-Aran, involving a Mack trailer and a Mitsubishi bus.
According to Mr Basambo, an FRSC rescue team from Omu -Aran Unit Command was “immediately mobilised to the scene.”
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the Mitsubishi space waggon (en route to Ilorin), in an attempt to overtake a bus, collided with an oncoming Mack Trailer.
The incident resulted in the instant death of at least eight people, including one male, three females, and four children, while six others were injured.
Mr. Basambo advised drivers to avoid nighttime travel and overspeeding, urging them to rest for at least 30 minutes after every four hours of driving.
