Waziri Dumps PDP, Joins ADC in Yobe as Ward Chairman Resigns Too

A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of its Board of Trustees, Adamu Waziri, has formally resigned from the party and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
This significant political move was made public on Monday during a meeting at his Dogo Tebo Ward in Potiskum, Yobe State.
Waziri explained that his resignation was in accordance with the PDP constitution, which requires members to formally withdraw at the ward level. He cited the party’s dwindling credibility as the main reason for his decision.
“I was a member of PDP, and due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign,” he declared.
According to Waziri, the PDP no longer represents the values of a viable opposition or the hopes of Nigerians seeking genuine change. He described his exit as a tough but necessary decision, pointing fingers at the party’s current leadership for straying off course.
He also urged his political allies and supporters to join him in backing a new political direction that, in his words, “can strengthen democracy and ensure better governance.”
In a swift reaction, the PDP Ward Chairman, Malam Muhammad Bomai, who was present at the event, accepted Waziri’s resignation with deep regret.
“Waziri has been an institution within the PDP, and we will feel his absence deeply,” Bomai said.
In a surprise turn, Bomai also announced his resignation from the PDP and immediate defection to the ADC. He said he shared Waziri’s conviction and vision for a more accountable and progressive Nigeria.
