Truth About Tinubu’s Policies – Nwugwu Writes

A Nigerian corps member and public affairs analyst, Ifeanyi Nwugwu, has come to the defense of President Tinubu’s Policies, arguing that they are not the cause of the country’s current economic hardship.
In his Facebook post, Nwugwu wrote, “Tinubu did not cause the present economic hardship in Nigeria. If Obi or Atiku had been president, Nigerian economic situation wouldn’t have been different from what it is today.”
Nwugwu explained that the policies implemented by Tinubu, such as floating the Naira and removing fuel subsidies, were also promised by other presidential contenders. “All the 3 main contenders in the last election promised to do what Tinubu is doing with the economy,” he said.
He further explained the benefits of floating the Naira, saying, “The immediate impact of this will be that our foreign and local reserves will rise, since the Central Bank of Nigeria will not have to defend the Naira by unnecessarily injecting Dollars into the forex market.”
However, not everyone agrees with Nwugwu’s assessment. One social media user said “I’ll cut some slacks for the president to an extent. He meant well by removing the fuel subsidy, the same plan the two contenders had”.
“But he should have put in place first the necessary structures, legal frameworks, policies and palliatives to address the consequences. However, I’m very optimistic that his government will be better than that of his immediate predecessor.“
