Student Leader Decries Attack on Igbatoro Farmers, Urges Immediate Security Intervention

With the insecurity ravaging Akure, Comr. Samuel Agbelusi has strongly condemned the recent attacks on farmers in Igbatoro by suspected herdsmen, describing it as a threat to food security, livelihoods, and peaceful coexistence in the community and the state.
In a statement issued today, the Secretary General of NAUS ONDO CMC, Comr. Samuel Agbelusi, expressed grave concern over the continued attacks on farmers, which have led to the destruction of farmlands, displacement of residents, and heightened fear in the affected communities, especially the brutal killings of 8 farmers, who were parents of some of our students, in Igbatoro.
“This barbaric act of violence against innocent farmers must be addressed with immediate and decisive action. Our farmers, who play a crucial role in ensuring food security and economic stability, deserve protection from such recurrent attacks,” Comr. Samuel Agbelusi stated.
Agbelusi calls on all security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Amotekun Corps, and other relevant authorities, to take urgent steps to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further occurrences.
He further stated that the Ondo state Government must also strengthen security measures in rural areas and ensure that laws regarding open grazing and land use are strictly enforced.
Furthermore, I urge the government and stakeholders to initiate long-term strategies, including dialogue between farmers and herders, the establishment of security outposts in vulnerable areas, and enhanced surveillance to curb further violence.
Agbelusi, emphasised that he remain committed to advocating for the rights, safety, and well-being of students, farmers, and all residents of Ondo State.
