Silas Onu Dumps PDP, Joins ADC Ahead of 2027

Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Silas Onu, has officially parted ways with the party, citing internal interference from some sitting governors as the key reason behind his decision.
Onu, who contested as the PDP senatorial candidate in the February 4, 2024 rerun for Ebonyi South Zone, has now aligned himself with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a party newly adopted by a coalition of opposition leaders gearing up for the 2027 general elections.
In a resignation letter dated Wednesday and addressed to his Obiozara Ward chairman, Onu informed his local leaders of his decision to leave the PDP. A copy of the letter, obtained on Thursday, also urged his supporters to shift their loyalty to the ADC for what he described as “a better political future.”
In the letter, Onu wrote: “It’s with a heart, yet for a more patriotic reason, I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.”
He reflected on his years of service within the PDP, noting his roles in strengthening the party’s grassroots structures. “As a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, I served my best in ensuring the party is well entrenched in our Ward and had the privilege of also serving as State Publicity Secretary before taking the highest party leadership office as the State Chairman in Ebonyi State.”
He further recalled his nomination as the party’s candidate in the 2024 senatorial bye-election: “Additionally, I was graciously elected as the candidate of the party for the Ebonyi South Senatorial Bye-election in February 2024.”
Onu said the decision to exit was a difficult one, but one he deemed necessary. “Therefore, this decision didn’t come easily. However, due to some irreconcilable differences, especially the role being played by a few sitting governors of the party, I am compelled to pursue my political aspirations from a different, but stable platform.”
Concluding his letter, Onu thanked his supporters and called on them to join him in his new political journey: “I thank you for your unflinching support throughout my membership of the PDP and pray that we can all journey into the African Democratic Party to continue forging a strong political movement for the overall good of our people.”
