A tragic clash between security operatives has left a police constable dead in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, following a fatal stabbing allegedly carried out by a newly recruited soldier, Dauda Dedan.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Taraba Command, James Lashen, told journalists that the attack took place around 9:00 p.m. on Monday in Mayo-Goyi, a suburb of Jalingo.

According to Lashen, Constable Aaron John had responded to a distress call from residents over a dispute involving the soldier. However, in the process of trying to intervene, he was reportedly stabbed by Dedan.

The police spokesperson said the suspect fled the scene and is currently on the run, but investigations are already underway.

“We have reported the matter to 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army, and we have been given full assurances of tracking down the fugitive soldier to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

Lashen noted that both the army and police are collaborating closely on the case.

“Both the army and the police are working hand in hand. We have gotten to the house of the soldier, we would ensure he is arrested and is brought to book accordingly,” he added.

Despite the shocking nature of the incident, the police assured that the relationship between both security agencies remains “very cordial.”
