Presidency disowns 2027 campaign Billboards

The Presidency has distanced itself from a surge of campaign billboards appearing in several cities, promoting a 2027 re-election bid for President Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said in a statement on Sunday that the government condemned the unauthorised billboards—many of which feature images of President Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, particularly in Abuja and Kano.
While expressing appreciation for the enthusiasm of loyal supporters nationwide, the statement emphasised that any form of early campaign activity amounted to a violation of Nigeria’s Electoral Law, which prohibits political campaigning outside the official election timeline.
“The President and Vice-President remain law-abiding leaders who do not support actions that compromise the electoral process or confer unfair advantage,” the statement said.
It also called on individuals and groups funding the campaigns to “cease immediately”, warning that premature political promotion risked undermining the integrity of upcoming elections.
The Presidency reiterated that President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima were fully focused on their current mandate—delivering economic revitalisation, human capital development, infrastructure renewal, social investment, and improved national security.
President Tinubu, it stated, would address his 2027 intentions only after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially sets the electoral timetable.
