Police Dismiss Rumoured Bomb Threat at Unijos, Assure Residents of Safety

The Plateau State Police Command has debunked widespreads rumours suggesting a planned bomb attack on the University of Jos (UniJos) and other parts of the Jos metropolis, describing the claims as unverified and without credible foundation.
Panic had spread across social media after a memo allegedly from the university’s security division, and reportedly signed by the Acting Chief Security Officer, warned of a potential bombing within the UniJos community. The document, dated July 4, 2025, quickly went viral, raising alarm among students and residents.
However, the Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Emmanuel Adesina, has assured the public that there is no confirmed threat.
“We urge the peace-loving people of Plateau to go about their lawful activities without fear. While the threat remains unverified, our officers are fully mobilized to respond to any situation. Your safety is our top priority,” CP Adesina stated.
Despite the lack of confirmation, the Command is taking no chances. CP Adesina revealed that several proactive measures have been launched to ensure public safety. He ordered the immediate deployment of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit—popularly known as the Anti-Bomb Squad—to thoroughly search the UniJos campus and other high-risk areas in the city.
Additionally, he said trained bomb technicians, patrol teams, and operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) have been stationed at strategic flashpoints across the metropolis to reinforce existing security measures.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, residents were advised to stay calm but alert.
The Police called on the public to assist with useful information and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest security agency without delay.
CP Adesina also emphasized the importance of community policing, noting that public cooperation is critical in identifying and preventing security threats.
He warned against the circulation of unverified information capable of inciting fear or disrupting the peace in the state.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant while continuing their normal routines without panic.
