Police Arrest Six Over Kidnapping, Firearm Offence in Nasarawa

The Police in Nasarawa State have arrested six suspects over cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of firearms in Doma Local Government Area.
In a statement in Lafia, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, Rahman Nansel, explained that operatives from Doma Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, raided a notorious criminal hideout at Yelwa Ediya, leading to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of hundred thousand naira cash and a motorcycle during the operation.
He narrated that the operation resulted in the arrest of the following suspects: Darda’u Shehu (M), Yunusa Malami Hashimu (M), Musa Abubakar (M), Ibrahim Musa (M), Mohammed Musa (M), all of Yelwa Ediya Village in the Doma LGA.
The Police spokesman further explained that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the 26th May 2025 kidnapping of a serving councillor (name withheld), during which they stole two mobile phones — an Infinix Note 30 valued at ₦250,000 and a Tecno handset valued at ₦20,000.
“They further admitted to mounting a roadblock along the Doma–Yelwa road on 19th July 2025 at about 9:00 a.m., where they attacked Ibrahim Haruna (M) of Yelwa Ediya and snatched his Bajaj motorcycle valued at ₦970,000. The stolen motorcycle was sold through one of the suspects, Ibrahim Musa, who contacted a buyer.
“During the operation, officers recovered ₦100,000 proceeds from the sale of the motorcycle which had been buried in the bush, along with one Bajaj motorcycle,” he said in the statement.
According to the statement, the suspects confessed to kidnapping a serving councillor, stealing two mobile phones, and mounting a roadblock along the Doma–Yelwa road, where they snatched a Bajaj motorcycle valued at nine hundred and seventy thousand naira.
In a separate incident, operatives from Keana Division arrested a herder at Gidan Zaki Hassan, Kuduku, in Keana Local Government Area for shooting at locals an AK-47 magazine loaded with six live rounds of ammunition after he was confronted by them for grazing on their farmlands.
He said when locals confronted them, the herders opened fire before fleeing. Still, the police, working with the community members, arrested one 20-year-old Suleman Mohammadu (M), a herder, and recovered one AK-47 magazine loaded with six live rounds of ammunition.
The PPRO, therefore, said following the developments, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, had ordered that all arrested suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.
