Hundreds of passengers have been stranded for two days at the Warri train station in Delta State due to a breakdown of the free train service introduced for the festive season.

The incident, according to a report by the Daily Trust, has caused widespread frustration among travelers, with the crowd growing larger each day.

Eyewitnesses described the situation as chaotic, with many passengers criticizing the poor maintenance of the free service.

“It’s unfortunate that we’ve been stuck here for two days. Maybe because the train is free, they don’t think it’s important to maintain it properly,” one passenger lamented.

The free train service, initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ease travel during the holidays, allows Nigerians to travel at no cost from December 20 to January 5.

While the initiative was initially praised, the breakdown at Warri station has raised concerns about the service’s reliability.

“We appreciate the government’s effort, but this breakdown has caused us more harm than good,” another passenger said, urging authorities to act swiftly to fix the train and resume services.

As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been issued regarding the cause of the breakdown or when the service will resume.
