Over 100 Homes Destroyed as Flood Hits Kebbi Villages

Severe flooding triggered by hours of heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in Zogirma village, Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, leaving at least 100 houses destroyed and many residents injured.
The incident occurred on Friday night and was confirmed by a resident, Haruna Danmalam, who told reporters that the flood left dozens of villagers with serious injuries.
“Many villagers sustained serious injuries as a result of the flooding,” he said.
Officials from the local government have since visited the scene. During a sympathy visit to Zogirma, the Secretary of Bunza Local Government, Umar Mawo, conveyed condolences on behalf of the council chairman. He assured the victims that steps were already being taken to document the damage and report to the state government for prompt intervention.
“The council would compile a comprehensive report on the incident and submit it to the state government for necessary action,” Mawo stated.
In a related incident, four other communities—Tungar Chindo, Tungar Kure, Feske Malabawa, and Feske Rafi—in Arewa Local Government Area also suffered major flood damage. More than 60 houses were destroyed, alongside livestock and property valued in the hundreds of thousands of naira.
The widespread destruction has raised alarm across the affected regions, with residents calling for immediate relief and long-term flood control measures.
