Our Job Is To Make Corps Members Feel Safe and Comfortable – Says Lagos NYSC

State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, has reiterated that the duties of officials at the Orientation Camp as to make corps members feel welcomed, safe, and comfortable during the course.
She stated this during official remarks in the first official camp meeting to commence the 2023 Batch “C” Stream I Orientation course at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos on Tuesday.
Mrs Baderinwa who emphasized the importance of the meeting, said “When we gather like this, we can all lay our cards on the table, and agree on how we receive others into the Camp.” She noted that while officials are to make corps members feel comfortable, they should not be over-pampered and should never contemplate disciplining them when appropriate.
The State Coordinator said that discipline does not mean being harsh or unkind to corps members, and advised the officials to manage their emotions when provoked by the corps members. She said, “Some of them are having freedom for the first time and can go overboard, with a bad attitude but because we are experienced, we should ensure they are well prepared for the outside world.”
She encouraged officials to attend all programs during the course, adding that staying on camp officials is compulsory. According to her,” Team spirit for uncommon performance,” stating it that it captures what is expected of officials and the outcome of the expectation.

On her part, the Camp Director for the course, Mrs Stella Nweke, reiterated the mantra of the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, saying security is for all and all must be security conscious.
She noted that all hands must be on the deck to participate in ensuring the camp is safe. She urged the officials to see corps members as younger ones and loved ones who should be treated tactically no matter the provocation. She advised that instead of having physical contact with them when provoked, they should be reported to the camp Secretariat where they will be disciplined appropriately.
