Columbian authrotities confirm Diaz’s father in rebel custody

The Colombian government says left-wing rebels affiliated with the National Liberation Army abducted Luis Díaz’s father, who is a football player for Liverpool.
Last Saturday, Luis Manuel Díaz and his spouse were forcefully taken at gunpoint.
When the police approached, the kidnappers left the player’s mother in a car but forcibly took away his father.
Initially, the police suspected a criminal gang to be responsible for the abduction.
However, on Thursday, a government delegation engaged in peace negotiations with the rebel group claimed to possess formal information indicating that the kidnapping was carried out by a terrorist unit.
According to the government, CCTV footage revealed their car being trailed by individuals on motorbikes.
The couple was confronted by the gunmen at a petrol station in their hometown of Barrancas, located in the northern province of La Guajira.
As the police closed in, the kidnappers left Luis Díaz’s mother in a car but forcibly took away his father.
The abduction of Luis Díaz’s father has sparked outrage in Colombia, where the player, a part of Colombia’s national team, holds a prominent position.
