Ogun Logger Killed in Elephant Attack From Government Forest Reserve

Tragedy struck in the Onitasin Imidi area of Ijebu East Local Government, Ogun State, after a herd of elephants reportedly attacked and killed a logger identified as Musa Kalamu while he was working in a government-reserved forest.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, stated, “Yes, we are aware and we are already on our way to the community.”
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, also corroborated the report in a WhatsApp message sent on Tuesday. According to him, “The Divisional Police Officer Ogbere received information from Itasin community on 28/07/2025 at about 1620hrs that elephants escaped from government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu who died on the way to the hospital.”
He added that officials from the state forestry department had been mobilised to contain the situation. “Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage. Calm has returned to the community,” he said.
A disturbing video that surfaced online showed the lifeless body of the victim, with visible signs of the attack. One distressed resident, speaking in the video, pleaded for government intervention: “This is Kala, he was attacked by the elephants at Onitasin. You can see the marks of the attack all over his body with some part of his intestine outside. The government should please come to our aid. The problem with these elephants is too much in our community.”
Authorities have promised to investigate the incident and reinforce safety measures in the affected forest reserves.
