Ogun Accident Claims 10 Lives As Police Nab Wanted Kidnapper

Ten people have lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident on Ome Bridge, inbound Awa, along the Ijebu Ode–Obada Expressway in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Traffic and Emergency Compliance Agency confirmed the fatal crash, which involved a Mitsubishi bus bearing registration number EJ829 LSR.
According to the agency’s spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the accident occurred due to dangerous overtaking. “The vehicle veered into the bush and plunged into the river,” he said.
In a separate development, the Ogun State Police Command announced the arrest of a notorious kidnap suspect and the recovery of firearms believed to have been used in past abduction cases.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, officers of the anti-kidnapping unit apprehended Clement Elijah, who had reportedly been on the run since 2024 in connection with a high-profile kidnapping in Ajelanwa village. “Elijah arrived Ibiade community on June 13, 2025, planned to abduct a prominent individual in Ago Village, Abigi, but his sinister mission was thwarted through timely collaboration between the police and vigilant residents,” she said.
Further operations led to the arrest of the gang’s suspected armourer, Posi Friday, on June 16, 2025. According to Odutola, a pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, and eight live cartridges concealed inside a Boom Speaker were recovered.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the proactive efforts of Ibiade and Abigi communities as he expressed deep appreciation for their sustained communication and support, which were pivotal in cracking the case,” she added.
Meanwhile, on the same day, June 16, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Team arrested fourteen suspected members of rival cult groups who were allegedly plotting reprisal attacks over supremacy battles.
