NYSC Lagos Coordinator Urges Corps Members to Apply Lessons from Orientation Course

The Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, has charged members of the 2025 Batch “B” Stream I to reflect on the lessons learned during the orientation course as they prepare to commence their one-year national service.
Addressing the corps members during a debriefing session ahead of their exit from the Iyana-Ipaja camp, Mrs. Salmwang stressed the importance of discipline, security consciousness, and positive conduct throughout the service year.
She cautioned them against night outings and late travels, reminding them that all travel must be formally approved before it is undertaken. On the use of social media, the coordinator advised corps members to project the scheme positively, but warned that speaking to the press or granting interviews is prohibited without clearance from the NYSC.
Encouraging corps members to uphold integrity, she said: “Avoid shortcuts to success as life is by phases. Be disciplined and respectful, but do not be servile. Where your rights are infringed upon, channel your complaints through the appropriate offices of the scheme.”
Mrs. Salmwang further urged the youths to embrace entrepreneurship and skill acquisition as a path to self-reliance. She cited the example of a male corps member who works as both a makeup artist and content creator, noting that the NYSC uniform often provides corps members with unique access and opportunities.

“The service year grants you platforms and privileges you may never have imagined. Leverage these opportunities to acquire skills that will sustain you long after your service,” she said.
The debriefing session, she explained, was intended to reinforce the values and lessons taught during the three-week orientation programme, ensuring that corps members are well-prepared for challenges in their places of primary assignment.
