NYSC Director Warns Corps Members Against Paid Relocation, Unauthorized Travel

The Director of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Headquarters, Chief Chiwendu Ogbonnaya Chukwu, has reaffirmed the Scheme’s strict policy on discipline and transparency, warning corps members against engaging in paid relocation or traveling without proper authorization.
During an official visit to the Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja on friday, Chief Chukwu reminded corps members that relocation and posting within the NYSC are entirely free and approved only on genuine medical or marital grounds. He emphasized that any attempt to influence these processes through unofficial means would not be tolerated.
“No corps member is permitted to travel without written authorization from the Scheme,” he said. “We have zero tolerance for any form of corruption or misconduct.
He stressed the rules must be followed strictly, and offenders will face disciplinary action.
The Director also cautioned against cultism, absenteeism, and general indiscipline, urging corps members to uphold the core values of the NYSC throughout their service year. He noted that the Scheme remains committed to the welfare and development of Nigerian youths.
Chukwu assured corps members of access to free healthcare and continued support through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, encouraging them to participate actively in Community Development Service (CDS) and make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
Earlier, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, welcomed the Director and presented a report on camp activities.
Chief Chukwu commended the efforts of the Lagos State Secretariat and promised that issues raised during the visit would be addressed promptly, in line with the NYSC’s ongoing reforms and commitment to improving service delivery.
