NYSC Bye-Laws Are Your Compass, Not Just a Book – Davidson Urges Corps Members

The Assistant Director of Corps Discipline and Reward at the NYSC Lagos Secretariat, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Davidson, has charged corps members to regard the NYSC bye-laws not as a mere booklet, but as a vital guide to a successful service year.
Speaking during a sensitization session with the 2025 Batch A Stream II corps members at the Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana Ipaja, Mrs. Davidson stressed that the bye-laws are the official rules and regulations of the scheme and must be adhered to at all times.
“The bye-laws are not just to be read once and kept away. They are your compass throughout your service year. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse,” she said.
She warned against unauthorized journeys, noting that traveling without proper clearance is a serious violation that could lead to disciplinary measures, including service extension.
Mrs. Davidson also outlined the procedures corps members must follow after the orientation camp. She advised them to report immediately to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) upon receiving their posting letters, obtain an acceptance letter, and proceed without delay to the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for documentation.
Touching on workplace ethics, she urged corps members to conduct themselves with integrity, avoid immoral behaviors, and never work in establishments owned by family members. She highlighted that maintaining discipline and showing respect to employers would go a long way in shaping their experience and future.
In a stern note, the Assistant Director cautioned corps members against engaging in cybercrime or financial fraud, particularly through the misuse of their bank accounts. “Such actions not only tarnish your reputation but are punishable under the NYSC scheme,” she warned.
Concluding her address, Mrs. Davidson reminded the corps members that the NYSC is more than a year-long program—it is a national assignment rooted in discipline, service, and responsibility.
