NiMet Warns of Widespread Storms and Rainfall Across NigeriaCrime From Monday to Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh weather alert forecasting thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Monday through Wednesday.
According to an update posted on NiMet’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the three-day forecast spans the Northern, Central, and Southern regions and includes a mix of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
“The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rain from Monday to Wednesday across the country,” the agency noted.
For Monday, the weather outlook suggests early morning rainfall over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna. In the central corridor—including the FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara—morning clouds are expected, followed by moderate showers in the afternoon and evening.
Southern states like Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom will see morning showers, with more intense rainfall later in the day across Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
By Tuesday, early morning thunderstorms are projected to affect areas such as Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba. Later in the evening, storms are expected to extend into Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, and Kebbi.
“The outlook envisaged thunderstorms with rains on Monday during early morning hours over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna states,” NiMet stated.
NiMet also highlighted that strong winds could accompany rainfall, especially in thunderstorm-prone areas. The agency urged Nigerians to stay vigilant, avoid sheltering under trees, disconnect electrical appliances during storms, and secure loose objects.
Residents and commuters are advised to be cautious, especially in flood-prone zones, while airline operators are encouraged to consult airport-specific forecasts for flight planning.
Updates will continue to be shared via NiMet’s verified platforms and its website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
