Nigerian Vice-Chancellor Urges New Students Union to Forge Strong Ties for Campus Progress

The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Professor Sunday Oge Elom, has advised the newly elected Students Union Government (SUG) to maintain good relationships with both students and the university management.
The charge was given by the Vice-Chancellor during the inauguration ceremony of the Students Union 6th Assembly held at the University Administrative block on Tuesday.
In his inaugural address, the President of the Union, Comrade Ezeh JohnPaul Makuochukwu, promised that his administration would enhance the student-management relationship.

He emphasized that his administration’s key priority would be to strengthen collaboration and partnership with the Vice-Chancellor and the University management for the collective advancement of the institution.
The president proposed the allocation of land space within the university premises for the establishment of a palm plantation and other agricultural ventures.
He explained that this initiative would not only serve as a source of revenue generation for the university but also provide practical learning opportunities for students interested in agriculture and environmental sustainability.
He emphasized, “One of the key priorities of my administration is to strengthen collaboration and partnership with the University management for the collective advancement of our institution. I recognize the critical role that synergy between the Students Union Government and the University management plays in shaping the future of our university. Therefore, I appeal to the management to join hands with us in ensuring the well-being and success of every student. Together, we can work towards enhancing academic excellence, promoting inclusivity, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.”
“As we embark on this journey together, I am filled with optimism and enthusiasm for the opportunities that lie ahead. Throughout the next academic session, my administration will be guided by a comprehensive leadership agenda aimed at fostering a conducive learning environment, promoting student welfare, and advancing the overall development of our university community,” he said.
He also stated that the union would design mechanisms to support deserving indigent students to fulfill their education pursuits through internal and external support and partnerships.
Additionally, the President pledged to collaborate with the University’s Security Team to inaugurate the Student Security Network to ensure students’ safety in the school.
He urged the university management to work with the union to ensure the well-being and success of every student. Together, they can work towards enhancing academic excellence, promoting inclusivity, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
