Nigerian Author Condemns Online Hypocrisy Over US Election

Maazi Ogbonnaya Okoro, author of the Igbo-translated physics textbook “Fizik,” has taken to his social media handles to ncondemn the online attacks directed at Nigerians who expressed support for a particular candidate in the recent US election.
Okoro, a student in the United States, criticized individuals who belittled and mocked those who preferred a certain candidate, saying:
“You are not better than anybody because you live abroad or anywhere. As long as an election is concerned, people must have interest.”
He emphasized that having a preference for a candidate does not depend on one’s location or voting ability.
The author also pointed out the hypocrisy of those who attack others for their preferences while complaining about racial discrimination in the US.
“Blaming people back home, mocking them and looking at them as inferior, then you cry that the present administration in the US is racially discriminating… is highly hypocritical,” Okoro wrote.
Furthermore, Okoro noted that Nigerians do not need financial assistance from abroad to survive, as many have been thriving without external support.
“No, those in Nigeria don’t need your money to survive. They have been surviving without you. Many of them have more than you,” he said.
Okoro urged individuals to stop exhibiting a “Messiah” complex, which he believes stems from feelings of inferiority and emptiness.
“You guys should stop all this ‘Messiah’ syndrome. It reeks of inferiority complex and feelings of emptiness,” he added.
Okoro’s post has sparked a conversation about the need for respect and tolerance in online discussions, particularly when it comes to political preferences.
As he aptly put it: “Location does not qualify who knows better and who doesn’t. What matters is the content of one’s personality.”
