Newcastle Denies Promises Made to Alexander Isak Amid Transfer Row

Newcastle United have addressed recent comments by striker Alexander Isak, who accused the club of reneging on promises about his future.
Isak, frustrated by a failed move to Liverpool, took to Instagram on Tuesday, saying, “I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events… The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”
Reacting on its official website, Newcastle insisted that no agreement was ever made to let Isak leave this summer. “We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer,” the club stated.
The Magpies added that while they value their players’ wishes, all decisions must consider the best interests of the team and supporters. “The conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. We do not foresee those conditions being met,” the statement read.
Despite recent exclusion from matchday squads, Newcastle stressed that Isak remains an important part of the team. “Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates,” the club said.
The Sweden international, who joined Newcastle in 2022, has been a key attacker under Eddie Howe, but Liverpool’s bid for him was recently rejected, fueling speculation about his future as the transfer window enters its final weeks.
