Martin Zubimendi Officially Signs for Arsenal from Real Sociedad

Arsenal have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a major summer transfer move.
The Gunners triggered the player’s €60 million release clause, securing the highly-rated defensive midfielder on a long-term deal.
Zubimendi, 26, is expected to become a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad as Arsenal aim to strengthen their midfield ahead of the 2025–26 campaign. His arrival follows the exit of Jorginho and the expected departure of Thomas Partey, positioning him as a vital addition to the team’s spine.
The Spanish international, known for his exceptional positioning, passing range, and tactical intelligence, expressed excitement about joining the North London club. “Arsenal’s vision and playing style are a perfect fit. I’m ready to give everything for this badge,” Zubimendi said in his unveiling interview.
He is set to wear the No. 36 jersey, the same number he wore when he first broke into Real Sociedad’s senior team. With over 230 professional appearances and multiple international caps for Spain, Zubimendi brings both experience and composure to Arsenal’s midfield.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised the signing, calling Zubimendi “a player of immense quality and intelligence who will bring balance and control to our midfield.”
The signing has been hailed by fans and pundits alike, especially as Arsenal fended off strong competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid to secure his signature. His presence is expected to provide more freedom for Declan Rice to operate in advanced roles, boosting Arsenal’s tactical versatility.
Zubimendi is Arsenal’s second summer signing after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, as the club gears up for both Premier League and Champions League challenges in the coming season.
