Lawyer Slams Speed Darlington’s Continued Detention

Stan Alieke, the lawyer representing Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, has criticized the Nigeria Police for continuing to hold his client in custody despite a court granting him bail.
Alieke expressed his frustration with the situation, highlighting the police’s disregard for legal procedures and the difficulties in securing his client’s release.
Speed Darlington has now spent over 31 days in detention, a situation that has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians. While some argue that the singer’s history of controversial remarks might justify his predicament, Alieke dismissed these claims as irrelevant. “This could happen to anyone,” he stated, calling for a focus on the legal issue at hand rather than public sentiment.
The lawyer also expressed disappointment over the lack of support from influential figures in the entertainment industry. He recalled a previous incident where Burna Boy stepped in to assist Speed Darlington by providing money to the police officers involved. However, this time, efforts to secure similar support have been unsuccessful. “I’ve used all my connections, but no one wants to help Speed Darlington,” Alieke lamented.
The prolonged detention raises serious concerns about the enforcement of court orders and the challenges faced by individuals navigating the justice system in Nigeria. Alieke’s outcry has added to growing debates about the fairness and efficiency of legal and policing processes in the country.
