Labour Party Slams Benue Killings, Demands Justice and Urgent Security Intervention

The Labour Party has strongly condemned the latest wave of mass killings in Benue State, describing the carnage as a national shame and a glaring indictment of Nigeria’s security architecture.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Caretaker Chairperson, Senator Nenadi Usman, decried the gruesome murder of over 100 people — including women, children, displaced persons, and security operatives — in what she called a “fresh wave of senseless bloodshed.”
“These are not just numbers — these were human beings with names, faces, families, and dreams. Their lives were brutally cut short in a country that has consistently failed to protect them,” Usman lamented.
Painting a grim picture of the atrocities, Usman condemned the destruction of homes, the ambush of security agents, and the relentless attacks on displaced persons as signs of a deepening national crisis.
“Children who should have been in classrooms were hacked to death. Mothers who once nursed hope now lie in mass graves. Fathers who stood to defend their homes were mercilessly butchered,” she said.
The party demanded the immediate deployment of security forces to vulnerable communities across the North Central region, alongside a full-scale investigation and swift prosecution of those responsible — irrespective of their connections or status.
“This bloodbath in Benue is more than a regional catastrophe; it is a national disgrace,” Usman declared. “The brazenness of the attackers and the helplessness of the victims point to a dangerous vacuum in leadership and accountability.”
The Labour Party also called for an urgent humanitarian response, including provision of food, shelter, medical aid, and psychological support for survivors of the attacks.
Senator Usman called on Nigerians to reject routine condemnations and demand concrete action from leaders. “Every time we stay silent, we embolden the killers. Every delay in justice is an insult to the dead.”
Addressing the victims directly, she said: “To the grieving families, to the orphaned children, the widows, and the shattered communities — your pain is our pain. Your cry for justice echoes across the land, and we will not rest until it is heard.”
Reaffirming the Labour Party’s commitment to the security and dignity of every Nigerian, she concluded: “Nigeria cannot continue like this. No nation thrives on the blood of its innocent. The killings must stop — and justice must begin.”
