Katsina govt swears in 34 LG chairmen, urges accountability

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has officially sworn in the 34 newly-elected local government council chairmen, urging them to uphold accountability, transparency, and integrity in their service to the people.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, where Governor Radda emphasized the administration’s commitment to supporting the chairmen in delivering effective governance.
He harped on key focus areas, including education, youth empowerment, and agriculture, as pivotal sectors for grassroots development.
To ensure effective oversight, the governor announced the establishment of a new unit within the Department of Local Government Inspectorate, tasked with monitoring the activities of local governments across the state.
He said while the state government would provide necessary support, any form of corruption, inefficiency, or negligence would not be tolerated.
Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), commended Governor Radda for conducting free, fair, and credible elections across the state’s 34 local government areas.
Dr Ganduje warned the newly-sworn-in chairmen against misappropriating public funds, insisting that financial autonomy should not be misconstrued as an opportunity for personal gain.
He urged them to remain present and active in their respective local government areas, ensuring continuous engagement with the communities they serve.
Dr Ganduje also stressed the importance of delivering the dividends of democracy to the electorate and called for unwavering support and cooperation with the governor and the party at all levels.
Alhaji Kabir Abdulsalam Shema, Chairman of Dutsinma Local Government Council, spoke on behalf of the newly-elected chairman. He pledged to adopt an open-door policy and called for public support and prayers to enable the execution of meaningful projects that directly impact the common citizen.
