Katsina Governor backs cultural revival, commits over N700m

Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, has pledged his administration’s full support to the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy in its efforts to preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage and promote the creative industry.
Governor Radda made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hajia Hannatu Musa Musawa, in Abuja.
Commending the Minister’s proactive approach, Governor Radda praised her initiatives aimed at cultural preservation and the retrieval of national artifacts, stating that Nigeria has a rich cultural heritage that deserves global recognition.
“We are proud of you and willing to support your initiatives, which are achievable. There’s great potential in this ministry, and so much to showcase to the world,” the Governor stated.
He highlighted Katsina State’s ongoing efforts to safeguard its historical landmarks, citing the N100 million renovation of the iconic Gobarau Minaret and the recent N640 million contract for the upgrade of the National Museum in Katsina.
Recognizing the untapped potential of the creative industry, Governor Radda emphasized the need to empower young talents across the country. He noted, however, that infrastructure and amenities are lacking, limiting opportunities for creative expression and growth.
In her response, Minister Musawa expressed appreciation for the Governor’s visit and support. She reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to using culture and tourism as tools for economic diversification.
“We hope to have an economic breakthrough in tourism. The revenue potential is immense, yet largely untapped. We aim to build on our heritage, artifacts, and rich traditions to drive domestic tourism,” the Minister stated.
She also emphasized the importance of creating jobs and stimulating economic growth through the creative sector by investing in youth development and cultural infrastructure.
