Escalating Kano Gang Violence: Thugs Now Invade Homes, Murder Innocent Residents

The escalating Kano gang violence is spiraling dangerously out of control, turning ordinary residents into helpless victims as revenge killings among rival thugs intensify. Over the weekend, escalating Kano gang violence claimed four more lives when rival gangs clashed in Kurna Mayanka, Yan Yashi, and Tudun Fulani. Among the deceased was Usman Hamidan, brutally murdered inside his own home.
DAILY POST interviewed his devastated mother, Hajiya Habi Hamidan, nearly 80 years old and paralyzed, who recounted the horror of witnessing her only son’s slaughter.
“They broke into our house in the middle of the night while I was lying sick in my room,” she said tearfully. “I heard him screaming in the courtyard as they were butchering him. When I looked, I saw four masked men. I cried and begged them not to kill my son, but they said they were sent to do this and wouldn’t leave until he was dead.”
She described watching helplessly as her son was beheaded in an act of escalating Kano gang violence, his blood splattered across their home.
“The whole place looked like an abattoir, blood everywhere,” she wept. “They even licked the blood off their knives as I watched. He was my only son who took care of me since I became paralyzed. Allah will judge them.”
Usman’s murder is one of several reported in Kurna, Ungogo Local Government Area, where attackers now storm houses to execute their targets—marking a new phase in the escalating Kano gang violence.
Alhaji Bashir Lawal Moriki, the local vigilante chairman, blamed parents for enabling these criminals.
“This is the parents’ fault because these boys come from this community, not the sky,” he said. “If we don’t correct our own, change will never come. Even if it was my son, I’d hand him over to the authorities.”
Another victim, Sabiu, a young security guard, survived an attack by the gangs but sustained deep knife wounds.
“They flashed a bright light in my eyes,” he recalled. “Before I knew it, I felt cuts and blows all over me. You can see the wounds on my head.”
Many residents blame rampant drug abuse among local youths for fueling the escalating Kano gang violence. Others accuse the police of arresting innocent young people after attacks, spreading more fear.
During a visit to the area, Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umar (Rtd.), urged residents to protect themselves before security agencies arrive if attacks reoccur.
Repeated efforts by Journalist to get a comment from the Kano State Police Command on the allegations of indiscriminate arrests and the ongoing investigation were unsuccessful.
The escalating Kano gang violence has taken a deadlier turn—unlike past incidents that happened openly in broad daylight, thugs now invade homes under cover of darkness, leaving entire communities terrified and grieving.
