Joint Security Operation Arrests 12 Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victims

Authorities of a coordinated security operation across Kogi and Kwara States have announced the arrest of twelve suspected kidnappers and one informant.
The operation’s success was disclosed on Tuesday by Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, in a press statement released to journalists.
According to the commissioner, the arrests were made during a series of raids conducted by a joint team comprising operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser and personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Egbe.
The operations targeted Isanlu-Esa and Okoloke in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, as well as Patigi, Lafiagi, and Gbugbu in Kwara State.
The suspected kidnappers were identified as Mainasara Abubakar, Sadik Abubakar, Jude Sani, Sanda Abubakar, Lawali Usman, Tukur Shehu, Hassan Abubakar, Kabiru Surajo, Makiri Dodo, Bala Hassan, Umaru Sanda, and Ruwa Abubakar. Additionally, Rabiu Makeri, believed to be an informant for the gang, was apprehended.
The statement detailed a fierce gun battle between security forces and the suspects, during which some kidnappers fled, abandoning their motorcycles and captives. Several kidnapped women were successfully rescued during the confrontation.
“The Kogi State Government commends the gallant officers from the Office of the National Security Adviser and the FOB, Egbe, for their courage and professionalism. We also extend gratitude to the Kwara State Government for their cooperation, which contributed to this significant success,” the statement read.
The operation has restored peace to Kogi West, disrupting a key criminal route from Kwara into local communities. One security operative was injured during the confrontation and is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Yagba West.
Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo, has pledged to cover all medical expenses for the injured officer.Commissioner Fanwo assured the public that the arrested suspects will face prosecution following thorough investigations, underscoring the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward criminality.
In a separate statement, Hon. Tosin Olokun, Executive Chairman of Yagba West LGA and ALGON Chairman for Kogi State, praised Governor Ododo for providing critical logistical support that enabled the operation’s success. “Governor Ododo promised to restore peace to Yagba West and the entire Yagba region. His decisive actions have delivered results, and we are grateful for his leadership,” Olokun stated.
The Kogi State Government reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with federal and regional partners to ensure the safety and security of all communities within the state.
