IGP Meets Alaafin of Oyo, Seeks Stronger Traditional and International Security Ties

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has called on traditional rulers across the country to play a more inclusive role in intelligence-led policing for enhanced community safety and national security.
Egbetokun made the appeal on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, while hosting a delegation led by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Alayeluwa Obama Akeem Abimbola Owoade, accompanied by his wife. Also in attendance were the Ataoja of Osogbo, the Olu of Ilaro, the Oloro of Oro, the Olusin of Ijora Isin, Honourable Prince Akeem Adeyemi of the House of Representatives, other federal lawmakers, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the South-West, DIG Adebowale Williams.
The IGP, while stressing the importance of traditional institutions in security management, assured the monarchs of “robust collaboration between the Police Force and traditional institutions towards ensuring inclusivity at various grassroots levels of their community towards achieving sustainable peace and development.”
In a separate engagement, Egbetokun also hosted the Ambassador Designate of the Republic of Poland, His Excellency Mr. Michal Cygan, alongside representatives of W-B Group, a leading Polish security solutions company. Discussions centred on deploying an integrated communication platform for the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen ICT compliance and bolster the fight against crime.
Reaffirming his administration’s priorities, the IGP said the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership remains committed to “continuous robust collaboration with relevant stakeholders and traditional institutions towards emplacing a Police Force which is professionally competent, service-driven, rule of law compliant, and ready to embrace technology, intelligence-led, and proactive policing.”
