IGP Honours Outstanding Officers, Meets PENCOM on Improved Retirement Packages

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, decorated two distinguished officers—ACP Aliyu Shaba and CSP Sentome Obi—as the Police Officers of the Year for 2023 and 2024 respectively. The decoration ceremony took place at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasized that the promotion and recognition of the officers underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to celebrating excellence, professionalism, and dedication in service.

“The IGP again re-echoed the decision of the Force Management that any officer who wins Police Officer of the Year Award, wins the IGP Commendation Award or has won category award in the last two consecutive years shall be recommended to the Police Service Commission for accelerated promotion,” the statement read.

He encouraged other officers across the country to remain steadfast and professional, assuring that the path to honour remains open to all who demonstrate hard work, discipline, and excellence in service.

In a separate development, the IGP also received a high-level delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), led by its Director-General, Ms Omolola B. Oluworaran, alongside the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr Kolade Morakinyo.

The visit included an interactive session at the Force Headquarters with senior police officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above in attendance. The session focused on critical concerns affecting both serving and retired officers, particularly as it relates to pension and retirement benefits.

According to the statement, the Inspector-General expressed confidence that ongoing efforts to improve the welfare and post-retirement conditions of police personnel would soon begin to yield meaningful results.

“The Inspector-General of Police once again reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to improved welfare packages for both serving and retired officers. He further reiterated the commitment of the leadership of the Force to emplacing a Force that is professionally competent, service-driven, rule of law compliant and people-friendly,” Adejobi added.
