Governor Buni takes helm of Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has been unanimously endorsed as the new chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, marking a significant leadership shift in the region’s development and security efforts.

Buni officially took over from Governor Ildjima Abdraman of Hadjer Lamis Province, Chad Republic, during the Forum’s 5th edition, held at the Muhammadu Indimi Learning Centre, University of Maiduguri, Borno State. His appointment underscores the confidence of regional leaders in his ability to tackle the pressing challenges facing the Lake Chad Basin.

Expressing his gratitude, Governor Buni reaffirmed his commitment to fostering regional cooperation to combat security threats, climate change, and economic disparities. He acknowledged the vital role of international partners, including the United Nations, Lake Chad Basi Commission, and African Union Commission, in supporting recovery efforts.

The Forum’s theme, ‘Rebuilding the Lake Chad : Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community,’ reflects a renewed dedication to addressing the insurgency, poverty, and environmental degradation affecting millions in the region.
