FG Cancels Democracy Day Parade, Tinubu To Address Nigerians And Attend NASS Joint Session

The Federal Government has canceled the traditional military parade earlier planned for the 26th Democracy Day celebration scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025.
In a statement released by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Democracy Day celebration, it was revealed that President Bola Tinubu will instead deliver a nationwide address at 7 a.m. on Thursday.
Rather than the usual parade, the president will participate in a special joint session of the National Assembly at noon. The session is expected to focus on national issues, Nigeria’s democratic journey, and calls for unity and lasting reforms.
A public lecture will follow at 4 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. Themed “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms,” the lecture will bring together political figures, government officials, and civil society leaders to reflect on democratic progress and challenges.
The government encouraged citizens to tune in to the president’s broadcast and take part in the broader dialogue on strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
