The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a school security guard in connection with the abduction and gruesome murder of a 55-year-old nurse and a toddler under her care in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Friday, the police said the incident occurred on July 23, 2025, when Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, a nurse with Clear Hope Foundation Academy in Dawaki, Abuja, and a one-year, two-month-old boy, Nanenter Asher Yese, were reported missing.

According to the statement, “Later that day while at the Police station, the caregiver’s husband received a ransom demand of ₦250 million through her mobile phone.”

Following the report, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an immediate investigation, employing digital forensics that traced both victims and suspects to Yelwa and Uke in Nasarawa State.

In a statement by the Command, on July 29, police operatives arrested David Moses, a security guard working at the school. Initially considered a possible victim, he later confessed to conspiring with his best friend, Sunday Irimiya—who is still at large—to carry out the crime.

“The suspects lured Mrs. Anaene to the school bathroom where they attacked and strangled her. David then took the child from a classroom and they murdered him in the same manner. Their bodies were placed in a sack, transported using a scavenger’s cart, and dumped in a canal. The suspect led police to the location, where the remains were recovered,” the statement read.

The Command expressed its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.
