Favour Ofili Switches Allegiance From Nigeria to Turkey After AFN Dispute

Nigeria sprinter Favour Ofili has announced her decision to switch allegiance to Turkey, ending her long-standing dispute with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
In an Instagram post on Monday, Ofili explained that the move came after months of reflection following a difficult period in which she felt let down by the Nigerian federation.
She wrote:
“Wrapping up my 2025 season has been a whirlwind of new experiences and big decisions. Racing back-to-back across amazing cities and learning from the best has been incredible.
As some of you have heard, I’m starting a new chapter representing Turkey 🇹🇷. I am proud to have represented Nigeria for many years in a highly successful way, winning six gold, two silver, and two bronze medals in championship meets, and reaching the 200m Olympic final. However, I experienced significant disappointment from the AFN and NOC due to their negligence toward me in two Olympics (Tokyo and Paris), which influenced my decision.
While this means I will miss this year’s championship in Tokyo, this change comes from the heart, not financial motives. I am truly grateful to have found a new home in Turkey, and I look forward to what lies ahead. I also deeply appreciate the support from my coach, agent, sponsor @adidas, and my loved ones during this challenging time.
