The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that the truck involved in last week’s deadly accidents along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway belongs to Visco Investment Global Limited, not Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) as initially reported.

According to the police, two separate crashes occurred on 3 September 2025 along the Ozalla/4-Corner axis, leaving 10 people dead and 10 others hospitalized.

The first crash, around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck carrying cement branded with Visco Investment Global, a Toyota Corolla, a Foton bus, and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus. The collision caused the truck head and Corolla to catch fire, killing five occupants of the Corolla and one passenger in the mini bus.

A second crash later in the day, around 3 p.m., involved a Sino truck belonging to Global Investment and a tricycle. The truck, also carrying cement, collided with the tricycle, killing all four occupants. Ten other victims from both crashes are receiving treatment in hospital.

Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the crashes as “avoidable,” ordered a thorough investigation, and urged motorists to prioritise safety, especially during the high-risk Ember Months.

Dangote Industries responded to widespread reports linking the accidents to its fleet, clarifying that the vehicle was not theirs. The company said investigations confirmed the truck belonged to Visco Investment Global Limited and is working with authorities to determine why the truck displayed its logo without authorisation.

Dangote Industries expressed concern over the spread of misinformation linking it to the tragedy and urged the public and media to avoid circulating unverified claims. The company also pledged to strengthen measures against unauthorised use of its brand and to cooperate fully with investigators, stating: “We categorically reject any attempt to exploit such tragedies for malicious or financial gain,” reaffirming its commitment to safety, integrity, and corporate responsibility.
