Ebonyi Governor Lifts Suspension on 81 Officials, Orders Immediate Resumption

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has lifted the suspension on 81 government officials and directed them to immediately return to their official duties.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, August 5, 2025, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor.
According to the statement, the officials include Commissioners, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, and Permanent Secretaries who were suspended on July 28, 2025.
“The Governor of Ebonyi State His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has graciously lifted the suspension on 81 Government officials,” the statement read.
“The Governor directed the Commissioners, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants and Permanent Secretaries who were suspended on the 28th of July, 2025 to resume official duties immediately.”
It would be recalled that Naija News Today earlier reported that the Governor had suspended 86 government officials across various departments for failing to attend a major government function.
In that announcement, Dr. Uzor had explained that the Governor viewed the absence of the officials from such an important state function as a serious dereliction of duty.
“The Governor views the absence of these officials from such an important event as a serious breach of duty and a disregard for the responsibilities of public office,” the statement had read.
Among those affected in the initial suspension were 25 Commissioners, 14 Senior Special Assistants, 24 Special Assistants, and 23 Permanent Secretaries. The suspension took effect immediately and was to last one month without pay.
The Governor’s latest directive is seen as a reconciliatory gesture aimed at fostering accountability while giving the affected officials an opportunity to recommit to the principles of discipline and dedication in public service.
