Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru Rewards Afrobasket Champion Blessing Ejiofor With ₦30 Million And Duplex

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has honored basketball star Blessing Ejiofor, rewarding her with ₦30 million and a duplex at Tlan Estate in Abakaliki for helping Nigeria win the 2025 Afrobasket Women’s Championship.

Nwifuru announced the reward while receiving Ejiofor, who hails from Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area, at the Government House on Friday. He described her as a proud ambassador of Ebonyi State and a symbol of the state’s growing presence in global sports.

“I was a little sad during the last AFCON because Ebonyi’s presence was not there,” Nwifuru said. “But I was happy when I heard, while abroad, that Ebonyi was represented in this championship that we won. This is one of my agitations that has come to be.”

The governor praised Ejiofor’s perseverance in earning a spot on the national team, calling her success a product of determination and divine destiny. He also commended her for inspiring young athletes and pledged continuous support for sports development in Ebonyi.

Approving Ejiofor’s request for better basketball infrastructure, Nwifuru directed the release of ₦50 million to the Ministry of Sports for constructing a standard basketball court for both male and female players.

“Our reward system is working very well, and we must reward you,” Nwifuru said. “Not only did you represent the nation, but you made your home state proud. We pray that God will give you the strength and all you need to perform even better next time.”

Ejiofor was part of the Nigerian team that secured the Afrobasket title, reinforcing the country’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
