Ebola Outbreak In DR Congo Claims 15 Lives

At least 15 people have lost their lives in a fresh outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the country’s health ministry.

The ministry confirmed the virus in a 34-year-old pregnant woman who was admitted to hospital last month with symptoms such as high fever and persistent vomiting. She died hours later from multiple organ failure.

This marks the 16th outbreak of the virus in the central African nation, which continues to grapple with poor health infrastructure and ongoing conflict in its eastern region.

The latest outbreak has been reported in Kasai Province, where 28 suspected cases have so far been recorded.

Authorities have called on the public to strictly observe preventive measures, including frequent handwashing and maintaining social distancing in high-risk areas.
