Veteran journalist and media mogul, Chief Dele Momodu, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the party of being hijacked by forces opposed to democratic ideals.

In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate exit from the party.

“My reason is simple and straightforward,” the letter reads. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

A former presidential aspirant under the PDP and publisher of Ovation International, Chief Momodu thanked the ward leadership for their unwavering support through the years.

His move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) marks a significant political realignment in Edo State and adds weight to the broader coalition efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Since joining the PDP in 2021, Momodu had remained active in national conversations and party affairs. His resignation aligns with a growing trend of defections by prominent figures disillusioned by the party’s internal crisis and leadership direction.
