APC Governors Hail Ganduje’s Resignation, Welcome Defections as Proof of Party’s Growth

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the umbrella of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), have described the resignation of APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, as part of the party’s natural evolution and growth trajectory.
The governors made this position known in a communiqué issued at the end of their two-day strategic regional meeting held in Benin City, the Edo State capital. The meeting was hosted by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The communiqué, read by PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, asserted that the APC remains Nigeria’s most cohesive political platform, with an unmatched track record of reforms, electoral victories, and national integration.
It further observed that the recent wave of defections by governors, federal lawmakers, and other influential stakeholders into the APC demonstrates widespread public confidence in the party’s leadership style and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Forum formally welcomed Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, to the APC, noting that his defection, along with that of his supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), underscores a growing national consensus around the administration’s transformative policies.
In the communiqué, the APC governors pledged to collaborate closely to deliver far-reaching reforms, strengthen institutional trust, and fast-track socio-economic development across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
They also resolved to uphold the party’s core values by leveraging technology, innovation, and inter-governmental cooperation to drive inclusive development from the grassroots level upward.
The Forum called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to rally behind President Tinubu and the APC as the nation works toward a more secure, united, and progressive future.
Reflecting on the country’s socio-economic direction, the governors reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and highlighted major resolutions from their gathering.
“The meeting offered an important opportunity to align development strategies, deepen party unity, and recommit to people-focused governance, institutional accountability, and inter-governmental collaboration,” the communiqué stated.
The Forum congratulated President Tinubu and his team, commending the broad support his policies have received across APC-controlled states.
During the meeting, members conducted a thorough review of Nigeria’s economic, social, security, and political outlook.
On security, the governors praised the efforts of security agencies in combating criminal activities and protecting the nation’s sovereignty. They also extended condolences to families affected by insecurity in Benue and Niger States, pledging continued support for the President’s security initiatives, including recent intervention efforts in Benue.
The communiqué called for increased investment in surveillance systems and improved welfare for frontline security personnel, while reiterating the need for stronger inter-agency coordination, community policing, and grassroots intelligence gathering.
Additionally, the Forum underscored the critical role of local government and community structures in delivering services and promoting democratic participation, stressing the importance of revitalizing governance at the grassroots level.
