Anambra Gov Under Fire Over Fish Magnet’s Murder

Chioma Ifemeludike, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for the November 8, 2025 election in Anambra State, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of businessman Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as “Fish Magnet.”
Onyekere was abducted from his residence in the Ezinifite community of Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, in a late-night attack on Saturday. He was later confirmed dead.
In a statement released on Thursday, Ifemeludike described the killing as tragic and unacceptable, calling on the state government and relevant authorities to launch a swift, transparent investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“The African Action Congress and the Chioma4Governor Campaign Team condemn this horrific killing in the strongest terms. We demand accountability and action,” the statement read.
“Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as ‘Fish Magnet’, was a young entrepreneur, a social media voice, and a bright spark from Anambra State. On Sunday, he was abducted and murdered in cold blood—right here in his own state. We are devastated. And we are angry.”
Ifemeludike lamented the growing insecurity across the state, stressing that Onyekere’s murder is yet another painful reminder of the dangers facing citizens in their own communities.
“AAC Anambra and the Chioma4Governor Campaign Team condemn this horrific killing in the strongest terms. Ifesinachi was one of our own—young, full of ideas, committed to his hustle, and representative of the very spirit Anambra claims to celebrate.”
She called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to take immediate and transparent steps to probe the incident and ensure justice is served.
“We are not going to treat this as just another tragic headline. We demand that the Anambra State Government, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, take immediate and transparent steps to investigate this murder and bring those responsible to justice. This cannot be swept under the carpet.”
Ifemeludike also criticised the state government’s approach to security, saying it had become disconnected from the people it is meant to serve.
“This is unacceptable. We cannot continue like this. We cannot mourn one more young person, full of promise, whose life is cut short by violence—and then move on like nothing happened. Ifesinachi’s death must not become just another number.”
She concluded: “We demand action. We demand accountability. We demand justice—not just for Fish Magnet, but for every Anambra son and daughter who lives in fear.”
